Bring Your Grass Back to Life After Winter

Every year, we look forward to the snow melting and the weather warming up, until dry, yellow grass emerges.

After months of negative temperatures, ice, and wet conditions have wreaked havoc on your lawn.

How do you fix it fast so that you can enjoy the spring and summer time?

There are a few things you can do that will spruce up your landscape for the upcoming warmer seasons.

Feed Your Lawn

After a tough winter, your grass is begging for some loving care.

A lawn feed or fertilizer will help provide the vital nutrients your lawn needs in order to flourish and rebuild after the ravages of winter.

  • Regular visits

  • And more!

Remove Weeds & Pests

It is common for lawns to become overrun by weeds and moss during the winter months.

However, they’re easy to eradicate with a proper weedkiller.

But you have to be sure you do it properly.

  • Use the right product for your type of grass and weed situation
  • Apply the product correctly to avoid damage to your lawn
  • Be sure to rake out the dead weeds to allow proper breathing room for your lawn and soil
  • Reseeding some sparse areas may be necessary if you notice thinning or bare patches

Mowing Your Grass After Winter

Once the temperatures start to warm up and the sun peeks out from behind the clouds, you’ll want to give your lawn its first mow of the year.

It’s important to be gentle with your grass. Setting your mower blades to a higher height during the first few mows after the snow is gone will help product a healthier, thicker lawn.

Why? Because taller grass promotes longer roots. Meaning, your grass will be stronger and healthier.

One more thing to note: Don’t mow your lawn if it is damp or a recent snowfall, as this causes more damage to the roots.

If you are having trouble assessing when it is safe to mow, we can get you set up in one of our lawn care programs!
