Before we examine how to prevent mosquito breeding, it is important to understand why preventing their breeding is important in the first place.

Although small, mosquitoes can be dangerous. Mosquitoes often carry diseases and are able to spread them to humans when they bite. The most common one we hear a lot about in North America is West Nile virus, in addition to several types of encephalitis and dog heartworm. In more recent years, the Zika virus and dengue fever have become more prevalent as well.

Mobility is the factor that makes mosquitos particularly threatening. They have the ability to travel far distances and across geographical boundaries, making them more difficult to contain and control.

Be aware of and monitor the places around your yard where water can easily collect and ensure that you empty them promptly and thoroughly.
