Complete Guide to Watering Your Lawn

When it comes to watering your lawn, do you know how to do it properly?

Do you know how much to water? When to water? How often to do it? Best times to water to make the most of your water usage?

Proper watering, especially in the middle of summer, is crucial to having the best-looking lawn in the neighbourhood.

Basic Lawn Care Rules

Your lawn needs at least 1-1.5 inches of water weekly

Lawns that go dry are more likely to sustain damage. In order to prevent your lawn from getting damaged, it’s important to provide your lawn with the proper amount of water.

Watering deeply 3 times per week, rather than daily, is best

It may seem logical to water your grass daily, but that is actually an ineffective way of watering. When you water daily, your grass will develop a shallow root system, which dry out quickly.

Water early in the morning

In order for your lawn to completely absorb all the water you give it, water in the morning before the sun rises. This prevents unnecessary evaporation and will save you money on your water bill as well!

If you can’t push a screwdriver into your lawn, that means it’s dry, and needs watering

Depending on your soil type, you may need to water more or less than the recommended amount. By pushing a screwdriver into the ground, you will know if you need to water more or less.

Check irrigation systems to make sure sprinklers are covering your lawn and not your patio, sidewalk, or driveway

Irrigation systems are efficient, but only if they’re set up and properly maintained. Otherwise, you’ll be wasting lots of water and money.
